I wrote a Book called VOICE MOTION … it is finally out on Mel Bay now in print and as an ebook!
It is widely available physically in the US already, and worldwide in many select book stores (and online)
Support your local book store if possible! (like Dussmann in Berlin) the ISBN# is 9781513468105
Amazon is also selling a soft, slightly cheaper but rather inferior paperback version “printed by amazon” (with a different ISBN#).
I strongly recommend getting the original 316 page spiral-bound version instead, also available from them and anywhere else (just make sure it´s the ISBN# above!) especially if you intend to use it on a music stand… or just get the ebook version directly from Mel Bay.
I recently did two fun interviews on the book: w/ Mick Wright for Modern Guitar Harmony & one w/ Samo Salamon

The book “….focuses on the intersection of melody and harmony. While valuable for all instrumental and choral composers and arrangers, it specifically explores ways to move melodic voices independently within three- part harmony on the guitar. All you need to benefit from this book is the ability to read standard notation on the guitar. Working through this book will improve fretboard knowledge and help you write better melody-chord arrangements.
For the first time in print, VOICE MOTION presents a condensed, comprehensive list of all the possible ways for three voices to move in 2nds or 3rds within the context of common 7-note or heptatonic scales. With graphic illustrations that instantly reveal the nature of the motion (see front cover), the versatility of this list is unparalleled in modern music publishing. (…) “

“In the great tradition of Mick Goodrick and George Van Eps, this invaluable book is systematic in presentation and exhaustive in scope. It will lead the student toward a view of harmony that is based less on discrete vertical structures and more the result of independently moving lines.
This approach opens vast new possibilities to the improvisor, and illuminates a path toward the goal of spontaneous composition. (…) “

”Guitarist Johannes Haage’s new book is a valuable addition to guitar literature. Johannes lays out hundreds of examples of voice leading using a variety of chord inversions. Serious guitarists will find material that will be very useful to create chord melodies, comping ideas and solo lines that reference chord shapes as templates. Highly recommended.”
